Biography

Dr. Donghoon Lee is a Tier-2 Canada Research Chair in Climate Resilient Water and Food Security and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba. He joined UM in 2024 after completing postdoctoral research at the Climate Hazards Center, University of California, Santa Barbara, and in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Research

Area

  • Hydroclimate forecasting and extremes
  • Climate-society interactions
  • Disaster risk assessment
  • Agricultural drought and food security

Expertise

Geospatial and socioeconomic data science, hydroclimate risk analysis, statistical and computational modelling, remote sensing, and machine learning applications.

Research description

Dr. Lee’s research advances data-driven understanding of hydroclimate variability and its impacts on society. His group develops computational and statistical approaches to forecast extreme hydroclimate events, quantify risks to water, food, and energy systems, and integrate climate information with environmental and socioeconomic data. The overarching goal is to support resilience and sustainable decision-making under a changing climate.

Student and Postdoctoral Opportunities
