Applying is only the first step. If you’re genuinely interested in an employer or opportunity, look for ways to stay connected. Attend an employer information session, connect with a recruiter on LinkedIn, or send a brief follow-up message after an event or interview.
A little follow-up can help you stay on an employer’s radar and turn a one-time interaction into a professional connection.
What you are building while you do this
This is more than just searching. It is how you start building skills you will use in your experiences.
- When you introduce yourself and communicate with employers, that is Communication.
- When you maintain professional relationships, that is Relationship Building.
These are the kinds of competencies you can recognize and reflect on through your experiences.
