Students on campus.

Enhancing student experiences

Thanks to generous donations from alumni and friends worldwide, $40 million in scholarships and $14 million in bursaries are distributed annually, creating possibilities for students of all backgrounds.

These scholarships and bursaries offer more than financial aid. They provide security, reduce stress, and foster a sense of belonging. For many, it means a richer, more engaged university experience.

When individuals, organizations and communities unite in the spirit of giving, it allows our students to access quality education, fostering brighter futures.

Fostering Indigenous excellence and Reconciliation

With recognition from donor-funded awards and scholarships, Indigenous students are encouraged to continue breaking barriers, pursue dreams, and become role models for the next generation.

UM actively works to establish earlier connections with Indigenous youth through mentorship and outreach programs. In addition, programs like Qualico Bridge to Success are assisting first-year Indigenous students in their transition to university.

The University of honoured to host the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and continues to work in partnership to face the painful truths of our history and present and move forward on the path to reconciliation.

Driving research and innovation

UM strives to advance solutions to society’s most significant challenges through innovation and discovery.

Fueled by curiosity, our researchers are deciphering the building blocks of life, creating profound expressions of culture and discovering innovations that will shape the world of tomorrow.

Philanthropy supports UM researchers as they chart new paths to cure or prevent disease, unearth solutions to combat climate change, deepen Manitoba’s connection with the world and transform entire industries with new ways of doing things.

Investing in exceptional places and spaces

Philanthropy has played a vital role in shaping an enriching educational environment, where students and faculty alike benefit from enhanced facilities that foster learning, collaboration, and inspiration.

To prepare students for the demands of a fast-evolving world, UM is continuously creating vibrant learning environments that serve a wide range of purposes—from traditional lecture halls to collaborative study areas, interactive labs, and flexible gathering spaces.

These spaces are essential in cultivating a campus culture where students, faculty, and community members are motivated to engage, innovate, and achieve.
