Research interests

Dr. Slater uses qualitative and quantitative methods to conduct research in the areas of community and public health nutrition, with a focus on:

  • Food and nutrition literacy
  • Food and nutrition security
  • Nutrition epidemiology
  • Knowledge translation

Current research projects

  • FANS: Food and nutrition security for Manitoba youth. This research is investigating the dietary and food behaviour patterns and food security of youth across the province of Manitoba.
  • Food and Nutrition Literacy knowledge portal. A knowledge translation initiative to support community and school-based educators teaching food and nutrition literacy: FANLit
  • COVID and food security. An exploration of the impact of COVID-19 on charitable food organizations in Manitoba.
  • Winnipeg Food Atlas. Interactive mapping application to explore food and nutrition security as part of the Manitoba Collaborative Data Portal.
