Deputy Provost (Academic Planning and Programs)

  • Dr. Todd Mondor

    Dr. Todd Mondor was appointed Deputy Provost in July 2019. A tenured professor in the department of psychology, he came to the University of Manitoba in 1999 and has sustained a successful academic career as a collaborative administrator and researcher dedicated to student success.

    Dr. Mondor previously held the position of Vice-Provost (Graduate Education) and Dean of Graduate Studies. He served as Associate Dean in the Faculty of Graduate Studies from 2014 to 2016, Head of Psychology from 2009 to 2014 and Associate Head (Graduate Programs) in Psychology from 2005 to 2009.

More about Dr. Mondor

As a faculty member in Psychology he received a University of Manitoba Rh award in 2000 for outstanding contributions in research, and he has held research funding from a number of granting agencies including, principally, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council.

While serving as Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Mondor reorganized the faculty's committee structures, restructured the Associate Dean portfolios to support innovation and development, worked to create a sustainable financial plan for graduate student support, co-led a process to craft a new strategic enrolment plan and introduced several celebratory initiatives for support staff and students.

He held executive positions in the Western Canadian Deans of Graduate Studies group (including President and Vice-President) and has been an active participant on various university committees including Deans and Directors Council, Strategic Enrolment Management Committee, Senate, Senate Executive and several Senate Committees, and he has served on presidential advisory committees to appoint deans and directors.

Dr. Mondor completed his PhD at the University of Waterloo, an NSERC post-doctoral fellowship at McGill University and the Montreal Neurological Institute.

Academic review and quality assurance

To ensure academic excellence and quality of academic programming, all academic programs at UM undergo a process of periodic formal reviews. These reviews are conducted through Senate-mandated academic program reviews and/or external accreditation reviews. Coordination and administrative support for academic program reviews are provided by the Office of the Deputy Provost (Academic Planning and Programs).

Academic program renewal

UM offers a broad range of academic and professional programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as programming opportunities in extended education and professional development. The Office of the Deputy Provost (Academic Planning and Programs) advises on processes with respect to the introduction of new programs and significant changes to existing academic programs and acts as liaison with the provincial government regarding program change and renewal.

Academic planning

The Office of the Deputy Provost (Academic Planning and Programs) provides leadership from an academic perspective for institutional and resource planning, including strategic planning, budget development and strategic enrolment management. The Office provides advice and support in managing approval processes related to academic partnerships with partner post-secondary institutions and external parties, and institutional approval of tuition and student fees.
