Career Opportunity: Rector

Founded in 1926, St. Paul's College is affiliated with the University of Manitoba and is Manitoba's only Catholic college. The College invites applications for the position of Rector (a position equivalent to President and Chief Executive Officer). The initial appointment is for a five-year term, with the possibility of renewal.

The Rector is responsible for advancing the mission of the College by promoting excellence in teaching, research, and service in the Ignatian tradition. The Rector oversees the development of the College's academic programs, campus ministry, student awards, research programs, and alumni, friends, and donor relations. This includes leading a team of 15 support staff serving approximately 850 student members and 55 Assembly members, comprised of faculty and invited writers and researchers.

The Rector is also responsible for overseeing the operation of the Jesuit Centre for Catholic Studies, the Near Eastern Biblical Archaeology Laboratory, and the Arthur V. Mauro Institute for Peace and Justice.

As a member of the Board of Governors of St. Paul's College and the St. Paul's College Foundation Board of Directors, the Rector provides strategic leadership for the College and serves as Chair of the Board of the Arthur V. Mauro Institute for Peace and Justice. The Rector also participates in the governance of the University of Manitoba through membership on Senate, Provost's Council, and the Deans and Directors Council, and represents St. Paul's College in national and international organizations dedicated to Catholic higher education.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Ignatian educational values, including social justice, the search for truth through faith and reason, ecumenical and interfaith dialogue, and community well-being.
  • Hold a PhD.
  • Possess 7 to 10 years of senior leadership experience.
  • Be an accomplished academic leader with strong management and financial skills.
  • Have exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Demonstrate the capacity to promote the College among key constituents within the University of Manitoba and the wider community.
