Cedric Tremblay, PhD

Dr. Cedric Tremblay is an assistant professor in the department of immunology and a principal investigator at the CancerCare Manitoba Research Institute (CCMRI).

His doctoral studies (2004-2008) successfully explored the role of key regulatory signals from the hematopoietic niche in Fanconi Anemia – an inherited bone marrow failure syndrome associated with increased cancer risk.

He pursued his career as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Montréal, in the laboratory of Professor Trang Hoang to uncover the mechanisms of oncogene collaboration in T-cell acute leukemia (T-ALL).

In 2011, he relocated to the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (ACBD) in the Stem Cell Research Group led by Professor David Curtis to complete his postdoctoral research on the stem-cell-like properties of relapse-inducing cells in acute leukemia.

He was appointed as a research fellow in 2015, thereby leading collaborative research projects investigating the mechanisms of drug resistance in acute leukemia.

Dr. Cedric Tremblay joined the CancerCare Manitoba Research Institute (CCMRI) and the University of Manitoba in 2022.

He has worked on hematological diseases for almost two decades, including three years at the Université de Montréal (2008-2011) and 10 years at Monash University in Australia (2011-2022), leading research investigating malignant stem cells in acute leukemia and testing novel therapeutics in pre-clinical models of acute leukemia.

Awards

Dr. Cedric Tremblay was awarded the prestigious Excellence Prize in Pediatric Research from the Foundation of Stars, as a recognition of his research work aiming to improve the outcome for sick children (2008).

The following year, he was awarded a Terry Fox Foundation fellowship from the Canadian Cancer Society for his postdoctoral work investigating the collaboration between oncogenes and signaling pathways in in T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL) – one of the most aggressive forms of blood cancers in children (2009).

He received a highly competitive Grant-in Aid from the Leukemia Foundation of Australia to establish a research program focused on the molecular mechanisms driving disease progression and relapse in T-ALL (2015).

He received an Early Mid-Career Research (EMCR) Collaborative Seed Grant from the Alfred Research Alliance (ARA) in Melbourne, Australia, to explore with Dr. Jessica Borger (Department of Immunology, Monash University) signaling pathways in pathogenic γδ T-cells that drive mucus metaplasia and airways disease (2017).
