Research summary

Dr. Ritchie’s research interests are largely clinical and focus on traumatic brain injury in youth and adults, neuropsychological assessment, and epilepsy. As a member of the multidisciplinary team at the Pan Am Concussion Program, Dr. Ritchie is involved in a number of multidisciplinary research projects examining concussive injuries in youth and adults. Most recently, the collaborative research team was successful in obtaining funding to evaluate multidisciplinary management of work-related concussion.

Biography

Dr. Lesley Ritchie is a clinical neuropsychologist an assistant professor in clinical health psychology at the University of Manitoba.

She is also a registered clinical psychologist in the provinces of Manitoba and Ontario and is licensed to provide clinical neuropsychology, clinical psychology, and rehabilitation psychology services to adolescent, adult and elderly clients.

Her clinical work is split between conducting neuropsychological assessments for the Epilepsy and Movement Disorders Services at the Health Sciences Centre and working as the onsite clinical neuropsychologist at the Pan Am Concussion Program. The Pan Am Concussion Program is a provincial government-funded clinical program that provides multidisciplinary care to pediatric patients with concussion and traumatic brain injuries (TBI) living in Manitoba, northwestern Ontario and central Nunavut.

Dr. Ritchie has represented neuropsychology as a member of the Parachute Concussion Expert Advisory Committee (CEAC). Parachute is a national Canadian charity founded in 2012 devoted to injury prevention and is actively involved the creation and dissemination of evidenced-based guidelines for injury prevention, including the Canadian Guideline on Concussion in Sport.

She is actively involved in similar advocacy and educational work in Manitoba, where she is a founding member of the Manitoba Adult Concussion Network – a not for profit group of health-care providers working collaboratively to promote and facilitate high-quality evidence-based care of adult concussion.

Additionally, Dr. Ritchie is a founding member of the Canadian chapter of SNS and provides an international perspective to the larger SNS community.
