Dr. Afshin Raouf is interested in developing more effective therapies for malignant breast cancer tumors, developing stem cell therapies for chronic non-healing wounds, and studying cancer, transplantation and cell therapy, wound healing, and stem cell therapy. He is the team leader for the TFRI-Prairie Cancer Research Consortium and breast cancer research group, and the Manitoba Breast Cancer Research group. Dr. Raouf's research program is focused on understanding the role of tissue environment and the tissue resident immune cells in healing and response to therapy. He uses patient samples to recreate the tumour microenvironment and understand the immunobiology of breast cancer tumours and uses primary human cells to create wound healing models to examine the immune suppressive properties of mesenchymal stem cells and how they can be used to improve chronic non-healing wounds.

Dr. Raouf holds a PhD degree from the University of Toronto, and his postdoctoral training in the Terry Fox Labs in Vancouver, BC focused on normal and malignant stem cell biology. He is an active member of the CIHR College of Reviewers and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for high-impact journals such as Cell, Cell Stem Cell, and PNAS. Dr. Raouf is accepting graduate students for both Masters and PhD programs.
