Member of Aging and Health Research Interest Groups, International Association for Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD)
Dr. Shooshtari’s interdisciplinary program of research is focused on Health and Well-being of Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Epidemiology of IDD, health trajectories, utilization of health and social services, aging-related health issues, patterns and causes of mortality have been some areas of research with focus on Manitoba using population-level administrative data. Evidence-informed planning and evaluation of community transitions for persons with IDD is a recent research in progress. Dr. Shooshtari's program of research is applied, using integrated knowledge translation model to inform policy and practice in IDD.
Dr. Shahin Shooshtari is a professor in community health sciences, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba.
She is also a researcher with St. Amant Research Centre, an Affiliate Researcher with the Centre on Aging of the University of Manitoba and an adjunct scientist with Manitoba Centre for Health Policy of the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Shooshtari teaches courses at the undergraduate-level, including Introduction to social epidemiology and fundamentals of health promotion, as well as graduate-level, RDC research methods course.
Dr. Shooshtari is mentoring a number of graduate and undergraduate students in her interdisciplinary program of research, linking areas of community health, aging, and disability. She is published extensively with her colleagues and trainees in these areas.
In recognition of her teaching, and research excellence and also her service, Dr. Shooshtari has received a number of awards from the University of Manitoba, community organizations, and also international associations.
