Holds the following cross-appointments:
Dr. Krokhin's laboratory specializes in proteomic applications of peptide chromatography for the analysis of proteins in complex biological samples.
He is an expert in high-throughput mass spectrometry technology and peptide separation science and develops some of the best chromatographic protocols for mass spectrometry applications in proteomics.
His research has led to the establishment of a world-leading research program in the field and has provided analytical support to many research and industrial labs conducting leading studies in human health, biochemistry, biofuels, and the food industry.
This has resulted in numerous publications, including world-leading studies on the SARS-CoV-1 and Ebola viruses, microbial production of biofuels, deterioration of flaxseed oil for the food industry, and the identification of novel biomarkers for acute kidney rejection in transplant patients, acute kidney injury following cardiopulmonary bypass surgery, and various diseases such as arthritis and Fabry disease.
Dr. Oleg Krokhin is an analytical chemist with over 35 years of experience in the field. He is an associate professor at the Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba, where he holds cross-appointments as an adjunct professor in the departments of chemistry and biochemistry and medical genetics. Dr. Krokhin's research interests lie in the field of proteomics, with a focus on peptide chromatography and its applications for the analysis of proteins in complex biological samples.
Dr. Krokhin is a recognized expert in high-throughput mass spectrometry technology and peptide separation science. His research has contributed significantly to the establishment of a world-leading research program in proteomics and has provided analytical support to many research and industrial labs conducting leading studies in human health, biochemistry, biofuels, and the food industry. He has authored over 145 peer-reviewed publications, including world-leading studies on the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 1 (SARS-CoV-1) and Ebola viruses, microbial production of biofuels, deterioration of flaxseed oil for the food industry, and the identification of novel biomarkers for acute kidney rejection in transplant patients, acute kidney injury following cardiopulmonary bypass surgery, and various diseases such as arthritis and Fabry disease.
Dr. Krokhin earned his doctor of philosophy and master of science degrees in analytical chemistry from Moscow State University in Russia in 1993 and 1989, respectively. He was the recipient of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Brockhouse Canada Prize for interdisciplinary research in Science and Engineering in 2006, the Moscow State University Prize for young scientists in 1998, the Scholarship of Russian Federation President for young Russian scientists in 1994, and the J. Soros Fund scholarship for young Russian scientists in 1992.
