Currently, Dr. Singh has several federal and provincial grant funding as primary investigator. Her primary focus is in clinical trials focused in acute stroke and in carotid disease related stroke. Over the next 1-3 years, Dr. Nishita Singh's professional goals will focus on advancing stroke research, enhancing clinical care, and fostering academic growth within the field of neurology.
Firstly, she aims to expand the research program in Manitoba by initiating and overseeing new clinical trials, particularly focusing on innovative treatment strategies for stroke. This includes the upcoming large platform clinical trial—the first of its kind in stroke research—as well as NIH-funded trials. These studies will not only contribute to global knowledge but also ensure that local patients have access to the latest advancements in stroke care.
Secondly, she plans to strengthen collaborative efforts both locally and internationally. By continuing to work with esteemed institutions like the University of Calgary, the George Institute of Health in Sydney, and various partners involved in Mission Thrombectomy, she will foster a robust exchange of knowledge and best practices. This collaboration will enhance research capabilities and improve stroke care standards worldwide.
Lastly, she is committed to advancing education and mentorship within the medical community. Dr. Singh will focus on training and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, providing them with opportunities to engage in high-impact research and develop their clinical skills.
Additionally, she will work towards securing more funding and resources to support innovative research projects and capacity-building initiatives, ultimately driving continuous improvements in stroke care and outcomes.
Dr. Nishita Singh, an esteemed stroke neurologist and assistant professor of medicine at the University of Manitoba, serves as the Heart & Stroke, Research Manitoba, and University of Manitoba provincial chair for clinical stroke research. With a Doctor of Medicine in Neurology from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, followed by a stroke fellowship at the globally acclaimed University of Calgary and a Master of Science in Epidemiology from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Dr. Singh's academic journey underscores her dedication to excellence and innovation.
Her influence transcends borders through collaborative endeavors such as the groundbreaking adaptive platform trial in acute stroke, partnering with researchers from the University of Calgary and the George Institute of Health, Sydney. This initiative not only propels acute stroke care globally but also enriches Manitoba's stroke treatment protocols with invaluable insights and practices.
As a pivotal member of Mission Thrombectomy's core committee, Dr. Singh's efforts in enhancing stroke capacity and training resonate locally by fostering knowledge exchange and best practices.
Her contributions to strategic planning at the Canadian Institute of Health Research as Institute Advisory Board member for ICRH amplify Manitoba's voice in shaping research priorities and securing funding for critical healthcare initiatives.
In the upcoming year, Dr. Singh's research plans will directly benefit Manitoba, ensuring the province's continued leadership in stroke research, education, and patient care. Her visionary leadership and dedication to advancing stroke research make her a beacon of excellence in Manitoba's healthcare landscape.
