Research summary

Dr. Navdeep Tangri's research program at the University of Manitoba is focused on the clinical management of patients with advanced chronic kidney disease. He developed the kidney failure risk equation (KFRE) to predict the need for dialysis in patients with chronic kidney disease and is currently working on multiple validation and implementation exercises to increase the uptake of the KFRE. He is also conducting a large prospective study on frailty, physical and cognitive function in advanced CKD and leading a multinational randomized trial on the safety and efficacy of a new therapy in this population. Dr. Tangri has published over 300 manuscripts and has presented his research at multiple national and international scientific meetings.

Biography

Dr. Tangri is an attending physician and associate professor in the division of nephrology, department of medicine, and the department of community health sciences at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Tangri is also the scientific director of the Chronic Disease Innovation Centre.

Dr. Tangri received his PhD from the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University in 2013, and he has received several awards for his research, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) New Investigator Award.
