Research summary

Dr. Jeffrey Wigle is a developmental biologist who is studying how homeobox transcription factors control cardiovascular function during both embryonic development and during disease progression. Since many of the growth pathways used by the growing fetal cardiovascular system are reutilized in adults during disease, we can better understand disease processes by determining the roles of transcription factors during embryonic development.

Biography

Brief bio

Dr. Jeffrey Wigle cloned and characterized a novel family of membrane proteins in his PhD work. During his postdoctoral fellowship, he determined that a gene, Prox1, was essential for the development of the lymphatic vessels in a mouse model. His current interests are in the transcriptional control of the process of cardiac fibrosis.
