Research summary

Dr. Chris Anderson's research delves into the intricate molecular communication between the nervous and cardiovascular systems in the brain, aiming to uncover potential targets for therapeutic intervention in brain disorders and injuries. With one in three Canadians directly affected by neurological or psychiatric conditions, the financial strain of acute care underscores the urgency of his work.

His focus lies in understanding the cell biology of neurodegeneration, particularly examining how the brain and blood circulatory systems interact to influence key aspects of neurodegenerative processes. This includes investigating the role of the blood-brain barrier in maintaining the brain's microenvironment, as well as exploring mechanisms related to glioblastoma invasion and glioblastoma biology.

Dr. Anderson's innovative research approach has garnered substantial support from esteemed organizations such as the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, and others. Leading the Manitoba Neuroscience Network, his team has a track record of producing successful researchers, leaders, and medical professionals. Under Dr. Anderson's guidance, they are advancing new therapies for brain diseases and injuries, marking an exciting period for researchers in the field.
