Research summary

Dr. Houston is currently conducting a large multi-center randomized trial of tranexamic acid to reduce red blood cell transfusion in major non-cardiac surgery. In addition, her research is focusing on the integration of patient care with clinical research in the area of MDS and acute leukemia. Major programs of research focus on clinical trials to improve supportive care strategies and expand access to novel therapeutics in this patient population. In addition, she is collaborating with scientists at the CancerCare Research Institute to facilitate tumor banking and translational studies in patients affected with MDS and acute leukemia.

Biography

Dr. Houston is a hematologist and clinician investigator at the University of Manitoba and CancerCare Manitoba. She is also a scientist at the CancerCare Manitoba Research Institute. Her research focuses on blood conservation and supportive care strategies to optimize care and improve outcomes for patients affected with MDS and acute leukemia.
