Research summary

Angela’s primary research interest is focused on improving access to genetics services through alternative service delivery models and interdisciplinary team models. She is interested in applying concepts from health human workforce theory and examples from other areas of health care to clinical genetics services. 

Angela is also interested in the application of other OMICS modalities to find diagnoses for more patients, resolve VUSs, and improve access to emerging therapies.

Teaching philosophy

Since returning to the University of Manitoba in 2021, Angela has worked with a variety of trainees, including research undergraduate students, genetic counselling graduate students, and other allied health trainees. 

She is happy to share her personal experiences of applying to genetic counselling programs, seeking mentorship, working in the research setting, and identifying/achieving personal career goals. In her teaching and supervision, Angela strives to find a balance between guidance and autonomy, allowing trainees to thrive in a safe and supportive environment.
 

Biography

Angela Krutish (she/her) graduated from the MSc Genetic Counselling Program at the University of Manitoba in 2019. After graduation, she worked as a clinical genetic counsellor in Thunder Bay, before returning to the University of Manitoba as the project manager for the “Canadian Prairie Metabolic Network,” a Genome Canada funded research study. Since graduating, Angela has also continued her research work on genetic assistants along with her co-PI, Jessica Hartley.
 
Angela is the associate program director and a faculty member of the University of Manitoba Genetic Counselling Program. She has participated in the program in a variety of ways, including: clinical supervision, teaching and course coordination, review of thesis letters of intent, and development and delivery of a research curriculum.
 
Angela has also looked for opportunities to become involved in the broader genetic counselling community. She has served as a member of the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors Research Committee, the American Board of Genetic Counseling Practice Analysis Advisory Committee, and the Canadian Board of Genetic Counselling.
