Research summary

Dr. Shivalingappa Halli's research program aims to facilitate evidence-based decision-making at the district level in India concerning maternal and child health. Using a program science approach, he identifies service gaps at facility and community levels to reduce maternal, infant, and child mortality. Key questions explored include the reflection of improved utilization in population-level coverage of health services, identification of inequities in utilization and coverage among different population groups, and examination of cultural and contextual factors contributing to these inequities.

Biography

Brief bio

Dr. Shivalingappa Halli is a professor of community health sciences and senior advisor at the Institute for Global Public Health, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba. With a diverse academic background, Dr. Halli has held various positions, including professor of sociology at the University of Manitoba, biostatistician and adjunct lecturer at the University of Calgary, and research statistician at The University of Western Ontario, along with several roles in research projects in India. His research contributions span demography, immigration, violence against women, HIV/AIDS, and maternal and child health.
