MIM provides a point of contact for anyone seeking assistance with understanding challenges relating to the structure, behaviour, design and uses of materials and composites.
MIM's dedicated materials characterization facility includes state-of-the-art electron microscopes, analytical instruments and a dedicated sample preparation laboratory. These resources are supported by dedicated technical personnel with interdisciplinary experience and a track record of partnership-building.
Description: High-end, state of the art transmission electron microscope housing a variety of detectors in STEM mode including High Angle Annular Dark Field (HAADF) detector for Z- contrast images, Bright Field and Dark Field detectors, and Super EDX detector for chemical composition analysis and mapping at the nano scale. Talos holders include:
Talos TEM also equipped with a Hysitron PicoIndenter PI95 for in-situ nano mechanical testing inside a transmission electron microscope.
Description: Octane Super EDX detector for chemical composition analysis. It is capable of generating point spectrums, line spectrums, and compositional maps at high resolutions. It is equipped with a Wavelength Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (WDS) detector to obtain elemental information of the sample, especially in light elements. It also has an Electron Backscatter Diffractor (EBSD) for crystallographic information such as phase identification and crystal orientations.
