Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management Research Day competition submission

Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management (FKRM) Research Day competition will include a poster competition and a Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.  Eligibility for each competition is as follows:

  • FKRM Undergraduate Students -  Poster Competition only
  • FKRM Master’s Students – Poster Competition or 3MT
  • FKRM advised AHS PhD Students – Poster Competition or 3MT
*Please note: Students from outside of the Faculty are not eligible to compete in the FKRM Poster or 3MT competition.  

Contest Information

Poster competition
The competition will be held after lunch on May 14, and presenters must be present to stand with their posters. Students are to prepare a 3-5 minute talk about their research. Judges will ask presenters questions, and after their deliberations, they will select the winners based on content, quality of research, originality, and presentation.

Prize Categories:

  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards for Master’s winners
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for PhD winners
  • 1st place award for FKRM Undergraduate winner
     

Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition
FKRM Master’s and FKRM Advised AHS PhD students will have three minutes to present their research and its importance in plain language, using only a single slide to illustrate their topic. The competitors will be judged on comprehension, engagement and ease of communication. Depending on the number of entrants in the 3MT competition, there may be 3MT heats and then a final round that would occur prior to the keynote.

3MT Rules and general guidelines will follow typical 3MT competitions held at UM.

Deadline

The deadline to register is April 30, 2024. Those who register will have recieve free printing for their posters.

*Please note that poster submission must be submitted to Jody.Bohonos@umanitoba.ca in a PDF format print ready for 36x48.  Other formats will be returned to you for editing and resubmission. 


3MT Information

3MT Information

Participants will need to arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to the 3MT presentations to upload their one slide PowerPoint.
