Getting started

Reset your password

If you have forgotten your password and have previously set answers to security questions in signUM:

  1. Visit signUM and click Forgot Password.
  2. Enter your username in the User Login box and click Next.
  3. Answer the three security questions you previously set.
  4. Add a new password that meets the following conditions:
    • Consist of a minimum of 10 characters (max 30)
    • Contain at least three of the following character types:
      • Upper case characters
      • Lower case characters
      • Numerical characters
      • Special characters _ # % ( ) . ^ { } !
    • Be different than your previous five passwords
    • Cannot contain your name or UMNetID

Your password may be in the form of a passphrase, for example, "IamGr8erthanu."

If you have never set answers to the security questions, you will need to contact the IST Service Desk.

Change your password

Changing your password requires two steps:

  1. Change your password
  2. Re-accept the Computer Usage Agreement

1. Change your password

Your new password must meet the following conditions:

  • Consist of a minimum of 10 characters (max 30)
  • Contain at least three of the following character types:
    • Upper case characters
    • Lower case characters;
    • Numerical characters
    • Special characters _ # % ( ) . ^ { } !
  • Be different than your previous five passwords
  • Cannot contain your name or UMNetID

Your password may be in the form of a passphrase, for example, "IamGr8erthanu."

You may change your password using either one of the following methods:

  1. On any internet-connected device, log into signUM, go to Self-Service > My Information and select Change Password.
  2. On a University of Manitoba-issued Windows workstation such as a departmental or lab computer, press Ctrl+Alt+Del and select Change a Password.

You only need to change your password once in either signUM or in Windows, as passwords are synchronized between Windows (Active Directory) and signUM.

2. Re-accept the Usage Agreement

 To re-accept the Usage Agreement:

  1. On any internet-connected device, log into signUM, and go to Self-Service > My Information.
  2. Select Usage Agreement Information.
  3. Read and accept the Usage Agreement.

Request assistance with resetting or changing your password

Create an IT ticket to request assistance with resetting or changing your password. Select Log in as a Guest.
