  • Be different than your previous five passwords
  • Cannot contain your name or UMNetID

Your password may be in the form of a passphrase, for example, "IamGr8erthanu."

Once your password has been changed, you will be prompted to re-accept the usage agreement.

  1. Visit signUM and click Forgot Password.
  2. Enter your username in the User Login box and click Next.
  3. Answer the three security questions you previously set.
  4. Add a new password that meets the following conditions:
    • Consist of a minimum of 10 characters (max 30)
    • Contain at least three of the following character types:
      • Upper case characters
      • Lower case characters
      • Numerical characters
      • Special characters _ # % ( ) . ^ { } !
    • Be different than your previous five passwords
    • Cannot contain your name or UMNetID

Your password may be in the form of a passphrase, for example, "IamGr8erthanu."

If you have never set answers to the security questions, you will need to contact the IST Service Desk.

After resetting or changing your password

Update your password for the following services, if applicable:

  • Wi-Fi: Any devices connecting to the uofm-secure Wi-Fi network must be reset with your new login credentials. Disable your Wi-Fi before changing the credentials.
  • Internet browsers: Clear/Update saved passwords for any UM services (Email, UM Learn, Libraries etc.). Instructions found here: Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox
  • Email clients: Any devices using an email client to connect to your UM email need to be updated with your new password.
  • Password managers: If you use a password manager, update your password there.

We recommend you do not save your password on your device or browser. Instead, consider using a Password Manager, a helpful tool to store and remember your passwords securely.
