Research description

Dr. Rayhana joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Manitoba in July 2026. Her research focuses on embedded systems and edge AI, with an emphasis on deploying machine learning and deep learning models on low-power, resource-constrained hardware. She develops intelligent sensing systems that combine IoT sensor networks, image processing, and on-device inference to perform analysis at the point of measurement. Her current work includes machine vision for precision agriculture and embedded platforms for automated inspection and monitoring.

Dr. Rakiba Rayhana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Manitoba. Her research focuses on embedded systems with artificial intelligence. She works on intelligent algorithms directly on resource-constrained hardware such as sensors, microcontrollers, and edge devices. Her interests include low-power embedded architectures, model optimization for edge deployment, IoT sensor networks, machine learning and deep learning. She applies this work to precision agriculture, industrial monitoring, and automation. She received her B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic engineering from BRAC University, Bangladesh, in 2015. She completed her M.Sc. in Electronic and Electrical engineering at the University of Strathclyde, U.K., in 2017, and her PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2023. Before joining the University of Manitoba, she was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at UBC Okanagan.
