Profile

Janelle Martel is an indigenous professional engineer with experience in large scale industrial hydraulics. Janelle began her engineering career as an application engineer with Power & Mine Supply Co. Ltd, a Winnipeg based distributor and system fabricator serving the pulp & paper, mining, and water/wastewater industries for Central Canada. During her time at Power & Mine Supply, Janelle specialized in providing application support for centrifugal pumps and cooling towers. Often working with engineering firms and end users throughout the entire project cycle (feasibility studies, preliminary design, bidding/tender phase, construction and start up) to ensure the correct equipment was specified and supplied based on customer system operations and specific design criteria.

As an engineer-in-residence, Janelle Martel:

  • Holds the appointment as the Co-op/IIP Development Engineer.
  • Acts as a liaison between industry and the Faculty to promote the Co-op/IIP Program, understand industry needs and help find Co-op & Internship opportunities for students.
  • Mentors students regarding requirements for professional licensure with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.
  • Actively engages with UMES and industry to provide networking opportunities for students such as Monday Night H.I.R.E.D events along with other events put on by the engineering society.
