The Smart and Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing (S²↔AM) lab aims to utilize AI tools, IoT, and Computational Intelligence to develop automated, cost-effective, and accurate decision-making tools to assess and optimize the sustainability of manufacturing processes. Another research aspect focuses on the creation of Hybrid Intelligent Sustainability-driven Computational Systems. Additionally, the lab investigates the use of Bio-based and Biodegradable Polymers, as well as Circular Economy principles in Additive Manufacturing. Other research areas of interest include using AI tools to develop Advanced Materials, Thermo-mechanical Processing, and Composite Manufacturing.
The S²↔AM lab actively pursues academic, interdisciplinary, and industrial collaborations to advance scientific knowledge and innovation
Dr. Ahmad Z. Naser earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the American University of Sharjah in the UAE. Prior to starting his Ph.D., he worked for NMDC Energy, the largest MENA Energy EPC company. In December 2023, he obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Guelph in Canada. Dr. Naser was nominated for the Governor General's Gold Medal, the most prestigious award that students in Canadian schools can receive. In July 2024, he started as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba.
The S²↔AM lab is currently seeking highly motivated, and collaborative Ph.D., Master's, and undergraduate students to join our research group on developing smart sustainable Additive Manufacturing (AM). The successful candidates will gain hands-on experience working with both plastic and metal AM. They will also benefit from direct guidance, competitive stipends, and funding support for their research activities. Ideal candidates are those with strong critical thinking skills, a passion for research challenges, and an enthusiasm for exploring novel ideas. Please refer to the "pdf" file for more details on how to apply.
