Dr. Fiorillo obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Building Engineering from the University of Naples “Federico II”, in Italy, and practised structural engineering in Europe for 7 years before obtaining his PhD at the City University of New York in 2016. He received the 2012 New York State Intelligent Transportation Society award for best student paper. He contributed to the development of a risk-informed procedure for calibrating Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) importance factors for highway bridges.
Dr. Fiorillo also contributed to the development of a probabilistic framework based on satellite data and socio-economic indicators, efficient sampling techniques and high-performance computing platforms for the risk-assessment of filoviruses outbreaks in Africa.
Bridges, Buildings, and Civil Infrastructures..
Analysis of Structures, Risk and Reliability of Structures in Civil Engineering, High Performance Computing, Bridge and Building Engineering.
Dr. Fiorillo works on the quantification of redundancy and robustness of bridge systems using advanced software packages, and on the development probabilistic frameworks for the system reliability and risk analysis of bridge networks.
Dr. Fiorillo also works on machine learning approaches for risk assessment of bridges and for the characterisation of bridge element deterioration using bridge inspection data.
There are M.Sc. positions available in Dr. Fiorillo’s research group.
