Biography

Dr. Viana’s research focuses on cost reduction of automotive power conversion systems, including inverter, onboard charger, and auxiliary power module. The approaches include leveraging the same hardware to perform multiple power conversion functions, either simultaneously or at different times, such as the drive inverter being used for charging when the car is not on the road.
Other research interest include active power decoupling control, transformerless converters and common-mode current elimination, and standard compliance for automotive applications.
