Bio

Dr. David Mandzuk began his teaching career in 1979. He spent the first 20 years teaching in four different schools in Winnipeg, and during that time, he played a number of different roles.

In 1999, he was appointed assistant professor and middle-years stream leader. In that capacity, he led the middle-years and weekend-college programs until 2005.

In 2003, he was appointed associate dean (undergraduate programs). In 2012, he became acting dean, and in 2013, he was appointed Dean of Education. 

Dr. Mandzuk has contributed chapters to four books and has co-authored two books with Shelley Hasinoff, the first with the National Middle School Association in 2010 entitled Slices of Life: Managing Dilemmas in Middle Grades Teaching and the second with Oxford University Press in 2015 entitled Case Studies in Educational Foundations: Canadian Perspectives. Their third book, entitled Navigating Uncertainty: Sensemaking for Educational Leaders was published by Sense Publishers in 2018.

Dr. Mandzuk has also published in national journals such as the Canadian Journal of Education and the Alberta Journal of Educational Research and international publications such as the Journal of International Migration and Immigration and Teaching and Teacher Education. Dr. Mandzuk was president of the Canadian Association of Foundations of Education (CAFE) from 2005-2010 and is currently the president of a CAFE special interest group known as Socinet. He is also the treasurer of the Association of Canadian Deans of Education (ACDE) and is the chair of the International Council on Education for Teaching (ICET), an international NGO which is a member of UNESCO's International Task Force on Teachers for EFA (Education for All).
