Bio

Dr. Beryl Peters is the Director of Practicum and Partnerships at the Faculty of Education, responsible for overseeing and providing leadership for the practicum components of the B. Ed. program. She is a member of the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning with specialty areas in arts education, curriculum, and teacher education. She holds a Ph.D. in Inclusive Education (University of Manitoba) and a Master of Music (East Texas State University). Dr. Peters has many years of experience teaching in K-12 public schools and post-secondary from Texas to the Yukon. Prior to her appointment as Director of Practicum in August 2018, Dr. Peters was an Arts Education Consultant with the Manitoba Department of Education where she coordinated the development and implementation of curricula and resources for K-12 Arts Education. Dr. Peters is Past President of a variety of arts organizations: Carl Orff Canada, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra Board of Directors, the Manitoba Orff Chapter, and the Yukon Orff Chapter. Her research focuses on arts education, multiliteracies, teacher education, and critical pedagogy. Dr. Peters holds multiple teaching awards and the national 2012 Arts Researchers and Teachers Society Doctoral Graduate Research Award for her doctoral research investigating links between rhythm and reading.
