Meet the CPD team

Dr. Nancy Auyeung is a 1992 dental graduate of then Faculty of Dentistry and now the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba and has maintained a private dental practice in Winnipeg for over 30 years.  Dr. Auyeung is a past president of the Manitoba Dental Association (MDA) and has served on various MDA committees during her professional career.

In addition to private practice, Dr. Auyeung is a part time clinical instructor at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry and also serves as the appointed director of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for Dentistry/Dental Hygiene. Dr. Auyeung contributes to numerous national dental organizations and has been recognized with fellowships in the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

Connie Hack graduated with honors from the University of Manitoba in 1996, with dual recognition as a registered dental hygienist as well as a registered restorative dental hygienist.

Connie holds membership with the Canadian and Manitoba Dental Hygienists Associations, as well as the College of Dental Hygienists of Manitoba.

She has spent her entire career working alongside prosthodontists as a restorative hygienist and now also divides her time as a part-time instructor in the Departments of Restorative Dentistry and Dental Hygiene, as well as providing teaching instruction with the CPD program at the University of Manitoba.

Dr. Mohamad-Hasan Kadhim is a certified specialist in oral medicine and oral and maxillofacial pathology, as well as a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Currently, he holds the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba.

Dr. Kadhim’s earned his bachelor’s degree in science from the University of Manitoba and served four years in the Canadian Forces in Winnipeg and Shilo. He earned his dental degree from Trinity College Dublin and completed a four-year hospital residency in Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General Hospital.

Dr. Mutalik holds advanced degrees in oral medicine, radiology, and diagnostic sciences from India and the University of Connecticut. He has over a decade of international experience in oral radiology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

A Member of the Canadian and American associations of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Dr. Sunil Mutalik is recognized for his innovative teaching methods, including the early adoption of game-based e-learning platforms during his tenure in Malaysia. He has been acclaimed by the medical fraternity for his insightful presentations at various conferences across the globe. He is also known for his scholarly articles on various topics in oral radiology and dental medicine which have appeared in several peer-reviewed dental radiology journals.

Maria Barnard is a graduate of the University of Manitoba. She has over 25 years of clinical experience working in general practice in Manitoba. Maria completed a Bachelor of Sciences in Dental Hygiene in 2011, enjoying the time spent teaching students in the clinic. She has been certified in Local Anesthetic since 2000 and uses her skills in pain management regularly to provide care to her clients.

Dr. Sherif Elsaraj is the Botox educator for the University of Manitoba’s CPD Dentistry Program. He holds a PhD in Craniofacial Pain and Health Sciences from McGill University and supervises residents in the General Practice Residency Program at the Jewish General Hospital.

His research focuses on TMD, sleep disorders, and orofacial pain, and explores early biomarkers for sleep apnea, factors contributing to the transition from acute to chronic pain, and the effectiveness of mandibular advancement device (MAD) therapy in patients with COMISA. Dr. Elsaraj serves as President of the Ottawa Dental Society and a member of the Scientific Committee of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Joseph Grauer was born and raised in Manitoba. He earned bachelor of science degrees from the University of Manitoba in 2018 and 2022, a doctor of dental medicine degree in 2022 and a master of dentistry degree in periodontics in 2025.

He is a board-certified periodontist and a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in periodontics. He currently teaches part-time in the Department of Dental Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry.

Dr. Grauer is passionate about patient-centred care facilitated by an interdisciplinary team and strongly believes in using basic science to inform clinical practice. His master’s thesis focused on soft-tissue integration around dental implants in a preclinical model. He has published collaborative research in peer-reviewed journals and presented his work at national and international conferences.

Besides his passion for gums, he enjoys exploring Winnipeg by foot and bike and trying his hand at almost any sport he can do with friends.

Dr. Ana Schettini was born and raised in Brazil, where she earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery. She later moved to Winnipeg to pursue advanced training, obtaining a Master of Science and a Certificate in Prosthodontics from the University of Manitoba. 

Dr. Schettini is Board Certified in Prosthodontics and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC). She is currently a part-time instructor at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, University of Manitoba, where she teaches in the Department of Restorative Dentistry.

Her clinical and academic interests focus on comprehensive, multidisciplinary dental rehabilitation aimed at improving both oral health and overall quality of life. 

Dr. Schettini is committed to excellence in patient care, education, and collaboration across disciplines. Outside of dentistry, she enjoys DIY projects, discovering local coffee shops, and engaging in meaningful conversations through community involvement.

Olaf is a 1977 graduate of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario, practicing for five years as a general dentist. He then received his Diploma in the Specialty of Pediatric Dentistry (1984) from Indiana University, Indianapolis campus, in Indiana.

He practiced full-time pediatric dentistry from 1984 until 2014, when he had to take early retirement. He taught part-time at the Schulich School of Dentistry for 41 years as an adjunct clinical professor in the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, retiring from the school in 2018, only to return in 2025 in a similar role. In July 2026 he was appointed full-time assistant professor.

From 1991 until April 2023, he was the Dental Director of the Cleft Lip and Palate and Craniofacial Anomaly Team at Thames Valley Children’s Centre in London, Ontario. Olaf served on the Executive of the London and District Dental Society from 1993 until 1998. He has authored or coauthored several scientific articles. He started the paediatric dental component of Operation Walk Canada's mission to Antigua Guatemala in 2016. Growth of the dental mission necessitated incorporation as the Children’s Oral Health Outreach Canada in 2026.

He sat on the Board of Directors of Merrymount Family Support and Crisis Centre from 2018 until 2024. He has been recognized by both the London and District Dental Society and the Ontario Dental Association for his contribution to the Specialty of Pediatric Dentistry and in 2018 was honoured with the Alumni of Distinction Award from the Schulich Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

He is a founding member of the Canadian Society for Disability and Oral Health (CSDH) and feels honoured to have been chosen as its first president in 2020, a position he held for 3 1/2 years. He moved into the Past President's role in April 2023 and completed his six-year tenure as a Director on the Board at the end of 2025. Olaf is passionate about pediatric dentistry and advocating to improve access to equitable, appropriate oral health care for people living with disabilities.

Olaf enjoys travelling, photography, hiking and spending time with his family.

Dr. Clive Friedman is a globally recognized and award-winning pediatric dentist who brings decades of expertise in treating individuals with disabilities to the numerous roles in which he continues to be active. Stemming from his passion for early intervention and behavioural management, Dr. Friedman has pioneered programs like Patient Guided Sensory Integration for autistic individuals. His leadership extends to serving as president of several international disability and oral health organizations. In addition, he continues to drive innovation in care for children through his work with global health initiatives, educational programs and activities in organizational dentistry and research in airway devices and soothers. More recently, his professionalism has been extended to serving on the RCDSO committee developing the Standard of Practice, Managing New Patient Requests, as well as the new Professionalism Document.

Dr. Friedman has a lifelong, special interest in treating persons with disabilities from an inclusive and equitable lens and he brings that experience and perspective to all his roles, most recently but not limited to the early intervention of sleep-disordered breathing in babies and more generally trauma-informed care. His fiduciary roles extend to his presidency of the International Association of Disability and Oral Health and the Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disability and that of being a founding member of Canadian Society of Disability and Oral Health.

Clive’s leadership skills are exemplified in co-creating the Patient Guided Sensory Integration program for treatment of autistic individuals. Clive is a clinical director for Special Olympics and served as a consultant to SOI in the development of its Healthy Smile Programs. He is frequently invited to lecture locally and internationally on disabilities, risk assessment, special needs, trauma-informed care, FOP, tethered tissues and motivational interviewing, the latter predicated on active listening and inquisitive skills in effective communication.
