Biography

Kivalina's research takes a multi-method approach to examine consequential consumer practices with implications for individual and community well-being, often in collaboration with community stakeholders. Her research interests include practice theory, maintenance and repair, commons-based peer production, attitudes and ownership, contagion, and brand and product relationships. Topics of interest include consumer recovery and adaptation of practices, distributed maintenance in access-based consumption platforms, and disrupted and embedded consumer mobilities. She uses qualitative and quantitative research methods, including depth interviews, focus groups, ethnographies, longitudinal surveys, experiments, and geospatial analysis.
