Karen Schwartz

Karen D. Schwartz, Ph.D. is a social sciences and humanities research facilitator at the University of Manitoba and affiliated with the I.H. Asper School of Business. She with university faculty members who wish to apply for research funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, and other public and private funders.

She is available to work with researchers in a variety of contexts including:

• Short- and long-term research agenda planning;
• Conceptualizing and developing grant proposals, including feedback on:
• conceptual frameworks, methodology, methods, budgets, and other components;
• adherence to grant application guidelines, and writing clarity, logic, and flow.
• Assisting with nominations for Canada Research Chair applications and various awards and honours;
• Assisting with knowledge mobilization strategies;
• Fostering links between academic units;
• Facilitating collaborative research partnerships between academics and between academics and community partners;
• Acting as a liaison between individuals, research teams, research facilitators, the Office of the Vice President (Research and International), the Office of Research Services, funding agencies, and other institutions and organizations;
• Hosting workshops on funding programs and grant writing;
• Assisting with editing for publications, and Assisting with written submissions to research ethics boards.

Karen holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Manitoba. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in Disability Studies, a Bachelor of Laws degree, and a Bachelor of Arts in history. She was a senior researcher at a national not-for-profit organization where she worked on projects funded by the Canadian International Development Agency, the International Development Research Centre, and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. During her time as a graduate student, she was a research assistant on projects funded by the Tri-Agencies, private donors and the provincial government.
