Research interests
Dr. Narvaez-Bravo research focuses on:
- Mitigation strategies to decrease foodborne pathogens in the food continuum, pre and post-harvest levels
- Understanding of factors associated with Shiga Toxigenic E. coli, Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes persistence mechanisms in food processing environments including biofilms
- Antimicrobial resistance in the food continuum
- Bactriophages as biopcontrol method
Current research projects
- Advancement of microbial reduction and techno-functional properties of oxidatively decontaminated and stored flaxseed
- Microbiological quality and safety of packaged ice from retail establishments in Manitoba
- Develop cost-effective strategies to reduce the use of (hot) water, sanitizers and labour to clean processing environments.
- Salmonella persistence and antimicrobial resistance in poultry facilities
- Shiga-toxigenic E. coli persistence mechanisms and surface biofilm detection using near-infrared spectroscopy on beef processing facilities
