Research interests

Dr. Narvaez-Bravo research focuses on:

  • Mitigation strategies to decrease foodborne pathogens in the food continuum, pre and post-harvest levels
  • Understanding of factors associated with Shiga Toxigenic E. coli, Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes persistence mechanisms in food processing environments including biofilms
  • Antimicrobial resistance in the food continuum
  • Bacteriophages and biocontrol methods

Current research projects

  • Is E. coli shed by cattle becoming resistant to antimicrobial interventions in abattoirs? How best to raise the hurdles
  • Shiga-toxigenic E. coli persistence mechanism and surface biofilm detection using near-infrared spectroscopy on beef processing facilities
  • Ozone effectiveness to reduce STEC and Salmonella
  • Effect of heat treatment on stability, sensory and microbial quality in food-grade canary seed
