Research

Research interests

Dr. Lengyel’s research focuses on nutrition and health-related issues of baby boomers and older adults residing in residential care [e.g., long-term care (LTC) homes] and in community residences, in both rural and urban areas, to improve their nutritional well-being and quality of life, specifically:

  • Determinants of food and fluid intake
  • Dietary assessment
  • Body image and baby boomer women
  • Nutrition end of life practices in LTC

  • Understanding Food Choices, Nutrition Experiences and Nutritional Risk of Very Old Canadian men: The Manitoba Follow-up Study - (PI)
  • Navigating the Nutrition Information Landscape for Long Term Care Residents and their Decision Makers at the End of Life - (PI)
  • Dining in Long-Term Care and Assisted Living: Stakeholder Perspectives - (Co-I)
  • Development of Hydration Intervention Protocols for Long Term Care Homes (PI- URGP Grant, University of Manitoba)
