The Green Investment Fund was created to spark community involvement in achieving our climate action goals, while promoting collaboration among students, faculty, and staff.
Great ideas can come from anyone in the UM community, so this is an open call to anyone and everyone who wants to take an active part in helping us reach our climate goals.

Since this is a revolving fund, future projects rely on preserving the initial investment. Project ideas should demonstrate the ability to generate revenue or save on costs equalling the funding amount within a maximum of five years. We ask that funding requests be for a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $50,000.

Application criteria

The goal with all Green Investment Fund projects is to make a positive environmental impact in line with the four pillars of the UM Climate Action Plan: energy and buildings, transportation, waste and land restoration.

Your application should clearly outline how your project idea encompasses at least one of the following:

  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Reducing energy use
  • Reducing water use
  • Reducing waste
  • Incorporating renewable energy
  • Reducing demand on infrastructure

All members of the University of Manitoba community are encouraged to submit ideas for consideration. Projects can be solo endeavours or feature collaboration between faculty, students, and staff (maximum 10 people per group).

Any student-only applications will require sponsorship from a faculty or staff member.

Application for the 2024 Green Investment Fund seed is now closed.
