start here Estimate your Fees

A step-by-step guide to creating a tuition fee estimate.

If your student account hasn't been updated yet, or if you haven't registered for classes, you may want to know roughly how much your expenses will be.

Follow these steps to determine which fees apply to you and calculate your total amount owing for each term:

Step 1: Calculate your base tuition

If you are in Dental Hygiene, Dentistry, Law, Medicine or Pharmacy, your tuition is set at a flat rate for each term. For all other undergraduate students, your tuition is based on the per-credit-hour rate for the teaching unit (or home faculty) of each course.

Step 2: Add fees based on your program of study

In addition to tuition, most students at UM pay some fees that are specific to their program of study. After you have determined your base tuition, identify which program-specific fees apply to you. Then, add these fees to the base tuition amount that you calculated in Step 1.

Step 3: Add general undergraduate fees

Some fees apply to all undergraduate students, regardless of the program of study. Add the student organization fee and applicable technology service fees to the program-specific tuition and fees that you identified in Steps 1 and 2.

Step 4: Add applicable general fees

Fees for several services, courses and memberships throughout the university may also be applied to your student account. Add the general fees that apply to you to your program-based and undergraduate fees identified in Steps 1 to 3.

Once you have considered which fees in each category apply to you, add them up to calculate an estimated amount owing for each term. Remember that not all university costs are recorded on this page. Expenses like housing, parking, meals and books should be taken into account when creating a budget.

Step 1: Calculate your base tuition Tuition rates per credit hour

*** The Nursing rates listed above also include Midwifery courses however registration in the Midwifery (BMid) program is restricted to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

University 1 and Extended Education do not offer undergraduate courses. Students in these programs taking undergraduate courses will pay tuition based on the per-credit-hour rate of the teaching unit for each course.

Distance and online education surcharge

This surcharge is applied to all distance and online undergraduate courses in addition to the regular tuition fees.

2023 - 2024 Tuition Rates

Rate per credit hour  $23.51

Most undergraduate tuition fees at UM are applied per credit hour based on the teaching unit (home program or faculty) of each course. To calculate your base tuition, multiply the per-credit-hour rate for each teaching unit by the number of credit hours you are registered for in each unit. Then, add any distance or online surcharges that may apply.

For example, if you are working towards a Bachelor of Science degree, your courses within the Faculty of Science will be assessed at $165.12 per credit hour, while any electives you take in the Faculty of Arts will be assessed at $144.28 per credit hour. Likewise, if you are a University 1 student taking courses within several different faculties, your tuition may be assessed at a different rate for each course.
