Each term, an official summary of your tuition and fees will be posted in your Aurora student account. To check your current balance, log in to Aurora and select "Enrolment & Academic Records," "Student Records," and "View Account Summary by Term."

If your student account hasn't been updated yet, or if you haven't registered for classes, you may want to know roughly how much your expenses will be. Follow these steps to determine which fees apply to you and calculate your total amount owing for each term:

Step 1: Calculate your base tuition

Most graduate programs at the University of Manitoba have a flat tuition rate for each term, though for some programs, tuition is assessed on a per-credit-hour basis. Begin by identifying the base tuition for your program and term of study.

Step 2: Add fees based on your program of study

In addition to tuition, most students at UM pay some fees that are specific to their program of study. After you have determined your base tuition, identify which program-specific fees apply to you. Then, add these fees to the base tuition amount that you calculated in Step 1.

Step 3: Add general graduate studies fees

Some fees apply to all graduate students, regardless of the program of study. Add the applicable graduate studies fees to your base tuition identified in Steps 1 and 2.

Step 4: Add applicable general fees

Fees for several services, courses and memberships throughout the university may also be applied to your student account. Add the general fees that apply to you to the tuition and graduate fees identified in Steps 1 to 3.

Once you have considered which fees in each category apply to you, add them up to calculate an estimated amount owing for each term. Remember that not all university costs are recorded on this page. Expenses like housing, parking, meals and books should be taken into account when creating a budget.

Continuing Fee

Graduate students are required to pay continuing fees in each academic term for which they are not paying program fees. This includes students whose program of study extends beyond the typical program length, and where program fees are paid in Fall and Winter terms, the continuing fee will be assessed in Summer Term.

*Starting Summer 2021, students admitted to Graduate Studies will be assessed program fees in their first two terms of study, followed by the continuing fee in the third term. Therefore, students who are admitted to their program in Summer 2021 will be assessed program fees in Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 and will be assessed the continuing fee in Winter 2022.

2023- 2024 Continuing fee: $553.00 per term.

Step 1: Calculate your base tuition Pre-masters, occasional studies and micro credential program tuition rates

Pre-master's

Pre-Master's students enrolling in courses are assessed the per credit hour course rate of the teaching unit for all courses taken.

Occasional studies & micro-credential courses

Graduate students in the Occasional Studies program and graduate students enrolling in courses that are not part of their degree program are assessed the per credit hour course rate of the teaching unit for those courses taken as occasional or towards a micro-credential.

Auditing courses

Graduate students enrolled to audit courses are assessed 50 per cent of the per credit hour course rate of the teaching unit for those courses.

Master's program tuition rates

Graduate students are required to pay continuing fees in each academic term for which they are not paying program fees. This includes students whose program of study extends beyond the typical program length, and where program fees are paid in the first two terms of study, the continuing fee will be assessed in the third term.

Field work fees

Field Work Fees cover expenses for student activity that takes place outside university facilities that are paid by the teaching department on behalf of students. Field work fees may cover accommodations, transportation, meals and/or group admissions.

These fees are compulsory for all students enrolled in the courses to which they are applied and are normally non-refundable after registration. As the university teaching department may have paid out expenses on behalf of registered students, once you register for a class with a field work fee you are normally responsible for the fee even if you drop the class before it begins.

Students intending to drop a course with a field work fee prior to the start of a class must consult the teaching department to determine if they may be eligible for a refund of field work fees.

Courses with field work fees are noted in class schedule comments. To determine the amount of fees associated with a course, first view the course in the class schedule. If a comment indicates a field work fee will be assessed, click on the course number and title to view class details. Field work fees will be classified as base fees. Field work fees are assessed in addition to course tuition fees.
