About FMSA
Mission
The mission of the Desautels Faculty of Music Students' Association Council (FMSA) is to foster a unified student and staff community within our faculty, and to advocate for the rights and better education of our students. Through planning social events and student initiatives, relaying student concerns to the administration and, when appropriate, relaying administrative concerns to the student body, we hope to foster a professional, positive, healthy, and supportive community within the Desautels Faculty of Music.

Running for Council
There are still many roles on our council that are open, and can be run for in FMSA's 2024-25 Fall by-election. All representative positions must be run for by candidates that self-identify with their respective communities. We hope you consider running!
Volunteer
Every year we seek volunteers to round out the Council as Non-Voting Community Representatives from different years and areas of study, so that all students' voices can be more easily heard.
Socialize
We organize and host a number of social events throughout the year, including Pancake Monday, Halloween Costume Contest, Holiday Baking Competition, Art, Music and Drama Coffeehouse, End of year Coda and most importantly, our annual Black & White Swing Thing social.
Spread Music Across Winnipeg
We run the DFOM Radio show on 101.5 UMFM, which aims to highlight and broadcast student accomplishments and advertise both musical and social events to a wider audience. If you have an interest in being on the show either as a speaker or to have some of your music played, do not hesitate to contact us!
Attend Meetings
All are welcome to attend our meetings! Information on how to access these meetings can be found on our social media, or by contacting any council member via email.
Support
We offer initiatives focused on student support such as Healthy Sexuality, Food for Finals, Pro-Tip of the week, Cultural Fridays, Student Features, and Wellness Workshops. Our office also provides free cutlery and hygiene products.
