Dr. Suzu Enns

Dr. Suzu Enns is a Winnipeg-based performer, teacher, arts administrator, and community collaborator. She proudly serves the Manitoba music education community through her roles as Director of Education & Community Engagement at the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and Clarinet Teaching Artist at Sistema Winnipeg. She frequently connects with teachers and students of all ages for clarinet clinics and music workshops, and facilitates arts programming for a variety of performing arts and community organizations in Winnipeg. Dr. Enns is a recipient of the Governor General’s Silver Medal and in 2017 earned a Doctor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance from McGill University (Montreal).

Laurel Ridd

Laurel Ridd is active as a freelance flutist, performing with the Winnipeg Symphony, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the Winnipeg Chamber Winds, and other ensembles. As a soloist she has appeared with MusikBarock in works by JS Bach, CPE Bach, Vivaldi, Devienne, Cimarosa and others while her interest in new music has led to numerous performances on the GroundSwell series. Laurel teaches privately and at the International Music Camp as well as at the University of Manitoba. Her students have won numerous awards and have frequently been selected to provincial honour bands and the National Youth Band of Canada. A recipient of the Manitoba Band Association Award of Distinction, Laurel is a founder and coordinator of the Syrinx Flute Festival, a performance and learning opportunity for flutists of all ages and levels.

Schedule

Saturday, October 5, 2024, 9:00am-12:00pm

The Upper Woodwind Day schedule will include four components:

  1. Individual instrument sessions: Participants will learn various playing techniques, instrument care tips, and reed selection and care. 
  2. Small ensemble playing: Participants will be placed in small groups to learn the art of small ensemble and chamber performance.
  3. A refreshment break: Participants will have the opportunity to get to know their fellow Reed Day participants during a break for cookies and refreshments!
  4. Larger group performance: Reed Day participants will perform together as part of a large group.

Registration

The deadline to register for Upper Woodwind Day is October 3, 2024.
