Why I give

Christine Cyr.

“Giving is so meaningful. Even if you can give a small amount, that may be the difference between someone paying their hydro bill, buying their text books, or having an opportunity to attend a conference that could have a huge impact on their life.”

“There are many scholarships, bursaries and access programs available for students because of philanthropy. An important part of philanthropy is that it provides all students the accessibility to quality education and programs."

“I give because I now can. The Support Staff Learning Exchange and SSEF Awards have provided me and countless others with opportunities that were otherwise not available to us. I give to ensure that future support staff have the same opportunities I had.”

Leaving a Legacy: Help us achieve our 40/140 Goal!

Planning a gift to the University of Manitoba is a meaningful way to give back to the next generation of UM students and researchers.

Alexander Kennedy Isbister left the University of Manitoba its first bequest of $83,000 along with 4,958 books in 1883. His gift demonstrated his faith in the future of the University and the province of Manitoba. From his gift, scholarships are awarded to promising students regardless of sex, race, or creed; these scholarships play an important role in student aid at the University. This planned gift has awarded scholarships to over 1400 students at UM since its inception. You too can leave a legacy.

A planned gift has no immediate cost, allowing you to retain control of your assets during your lifetime. You will receive a donation receipt for use in the year of your passing and the previous year, and your estate can claim tax credits in subsequent years. Click here to learn more.
