Indigenous Student Led Indigenous Art Purchase Program (ISLIAPP)
The Indigenous Student Led Indigenous Art Purchase Program (ISLIAPP) seeks to transform the composition of the University Art Collections by adding contemporary Indigenous art to the collection. Each year, ISLIAPP convenes a committee of 5 to 7 Indigenous students from the University of Manitoba community who meet with artists and curators, visit studios, to select artwork to be acquired by the University of Manitoba University Art Collections.
ISLIAPP will exhibit the selected artwork at the Collections Gallery of the School of Art Gallery. After the exhibition, the work, as part of the University Art Collection, will be placed on display on campus for students, faculty, and the public to enjoy. This effort begins the process of diversifying and decolonizing the University Art Collections by including contemporary Indigenous artwork in the collection.
