Welcome to Winnipeg! The University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg are thrilled to be your co-hosts for the 2024 Council of Western Canadian University Board Secretaries Conference, held October 6 - 8, 2024. The theme of this year's conference is partnerships.

SOLD OUT. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Delta Winnipeg Hotel on October 6 and 7, 2024 at a preferred conference rate of $279.00 plus tax. This block and preferred rate are guaranteed until August 15, 2024 and may sell out.

Transportation
Flying:
The Winnipeg James A. Richardson International Airport serves the City of Winnipeg and surrounding areas with direct flights from many Western Canadian cities through Air Canada, WestJet, and Flair Airlines.
Within the City:
Public Transit: The City of Winnipeg Transit offers many bus routes throughout the city, including two routes that travel directly from James A. Richardson to the Delta Winnipeg Hotel (Route 15 and Route 20).
RideShare: Uber is licensed to operate within the City of Winnipeg, with fares from the Airport to Delta Winnipeg ranging from $25-35.
Taxi: Unicity Taxi and Duffy's Taxi are the two most prominent taxi companies in the city. Fares are similar to those offered by Uber.
Conference Transportation:
As conference hosts, we have arranged transportation between the hotel and campuses. A shuttle will be provided to and from the University of Manitoba on Monday, October 7, 2024 and to the University of Winnipeg on Tuesday, October 7, 2024.
Around Winnipeg
Winnipeg is a vibrant and diverse city with many museums, galleries, restaurants, and points of interest. Below, we have listed a few locations in the city may be of interest to you. If you are looking for something to meet a specific interest and do not see it listed below, please feel free to reach out to us and we would be happy to provide individual recommendations.
The Forks National Historic Site. Located on Treaty 1 at the juncture of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, the Forks has been Winnipeg's "meeting place" for more than 6,000 years. The Forks is free to visit and offers a wide range of dining options, shops, and indoor and outdoor activities.
Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Open in September, 2014, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights is the only national museum outside of the National Capital Region. explore the subject of human rights with a special but not exclusive reference to Canada, to enhance the public's understanding of human rights, to promote respect for others and to encourage reflection and dialogue. Admission is free on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
WAG-Qaumajuq. The largest art gallery in the city, the Winnipeg Art Gallery's permanent collection houses over 24,000 works from Indigenous Canadian, Canadian, and international artists. It also is home to the world's largest Inuit art collection.
The Leaf at Assinibone Park. The Leaf is an indoor horticultural attraction with four distinct biomes, lending to a stunning display of natural diversity in local and global plant life and an indoor waterfall. 30 acres of public gardens and greenspace surround the building.
FortWhyte Alive. FortWhyte Alive is a reclaimed wildlife preserve, recreation area, and environmental education centre located in southwest Winnipeg. The 660 acre park is located on the migratory path of Canadian geese and contains prairie, lakes, forest, and wetlands within its boundaries.
Winnipeg Exchange District. Winnipeg's historic Exchange District is known for its cultural offerings, restaurants, and vintage and independent shops. The Exchange District Biz offers a listing of businesses in the neighbourhood.
