Verena Menec, PhD
Research summary
Dr. Verena Menec's research primarily focuses on older adults, emphasizing the social determinants of healthy aging, social inclusion, and age-friendly communities. Her extensive publications in the field of aging, along with her involvement in numerous advisory committees, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institute of Aging and the board of the Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG), highlight her leadership in the field. Dr. Menec's research is known for its community-based approach, collaborating with organizations to improve the health and well-being of older adults.
Dr. Menec is also the Manitoba lead researcher for the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA), a groundbreaking project that will follow approximately 50,000 individuals aged 45 to 85 over 20 years. The study aims to provide valuable insights into the factors contributing to healthy aging.
Biography
Dr. Menec is a professor emerit in the College of Community and Global Health at the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. She has received numerous research grants and awards throughout her career, including a Canada Research Chair in Healthy Aging. From 2004 to 2014, she served as the director of the Centre on Aging at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Menec’s work continues to have a significant impact on the field of aging research, earning her recognition as a leader in the area.
