Internal Medicine (Section of Infectious Diseases), Max Rady College of Medicine
Dr. Terence Wuerz, an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba, focuses his research on clinical infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance. He leads national and international multi-site clinical trials, investigating therapeutic options for infections such as S. aureus, C. difficile and COVID-19. His work aims to improve medical care quality through optimal antimicrobial use and foster better communication between healthcare providers and patients.
Dr. Terence Wuerz is an assistant professor in the College of Community and Global Health and the department of internal medicine (section of infectious diseases) at the University of Manitoba. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Manitoba in 2007, followed by fellowships in internal medicine at Dalhousie University and in infectious diseases at the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Wuerz also holds a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene from the University of Alabama and a Master of Science in epidemiology from the University of London. He began his career as an internist in Yellowknife, N.W.T., before transitioning to academia, where he continues to enhance medical care quality through research and teaching.
In 2022, Dr. Wuerz collaborated with the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases to create the Manitoba AMR Alliance website, which aims to raise awareness and provide clinical tools supporting antimicrobial stewardship for healthcare providers.
