Research summary

Dr. Shooshtari’s interdisciplinary program of research focuses on the health and well-being of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Areas of research include the epidemiology of IDD, health trajectories, utilization of health and social services, aging-related health issues, and patterns and causes of mortality, with a focus on Manitoba using population-level administrative data. A recent area of research in progress involves evidence-informed planning and evaluation of community transitions for persons with IDD. Dr. Shooshtari's program of research is applied, using the integrated knowledge translation model to inform policy and practice in IDD.

Biography

Dr. Shahin Shooshtari is a professor in the College of Community and Global Health at the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. She is also a dedicated researcher with a program of interdisciplinary research that focuses on the health and well-being of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Dr. Shooshtari is a respected mentor and teacher, committed to training the next generation of researchers in her field. She teaches a range of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including Introduction to Social Epidemiology, Fundamentals of Health Promotion, and the RDC Research Methods course. Dr. Shooshtari is actively involved in supervising and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in her interdisciplinary program of research.
