Dr. Lavoie’s program of research is uniquely positioned, innovative and conducted in partnership with First Nations, Inuit and other Indigenous groups across Canada, in Alaska, Norway, Colombia, Australia, New Zealand and circumpolar countries.
She has mixed method expertise in public administration, qualitative and health service research (health administrative data). Her research focuses on improved access to primary (ie outpatient) healthcare for underserved and marginalized populations, in rural, remote and inner-city environments; and on shifting health policy. Her program of research demonstrates leadership in engaged scholarship.
Dr. Josée Lavoie is a professor in the College of Community and Global Health, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, and past director of Ongomiizwin Research Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing.
Her research intersects policy and Indigenous health services, focusing on contracting, accountability, and responsiveness. She collaborates with the First Nations Health and Social Secretariat of Manitoba, the Manitoba Inuit Association, and partners in Australia, New Zealand, and Circumpolar countries.
