At the Fort Garry BookStore we believe in fair labour practices. That's why we've implemented a No Sweat Policy. We require clothing vendors who use our brands (UM/Bisons) to follow the Fair Labor Association's Code of Conduct (PDF).

Refunds

All refunds will be credited in the same form as the original payment. Always keep your receipt.

Digital course materials (Access codes, E-textbooks) and used textbooks are non-refundable.

Textbooks and course materials

Authorized Textbooks purchased online or in store may be returned up to one week from the date of purchase, class commencement or course change/withdrawal during summer session and exam periods.

Authorized Textbooks purchased online or in store may be returned up to two weeks from the date of purchase, class commencement or course change/withdrawal during regular session.

Returns are accepted based on the standards set by the publishers. Publishers will not accept any books with defects or damage. We cannot refund any book that appears read, used, marked, bent, torn or if the spine is cracked. Textbooks must be in perfect condition.

The following items are non-refundable:
  • Opened shrink-wrapped coursepacks
  • Digital course materials (Access codes, E-textbooks)
  • Kits
  • Medical/lab supplies

Used textbooks are non-refundable through BookStore, but you may be able to sell them online.

General books, clothing and giftware

General reading books, insignia items and clothing purchased online or in store may be returned up to two weeks from the date of purchase.

Merchandise must be unopened, new and accompanied by a sales receipt and valid ID. Clothing items, bags and backpacks must have original tags attached.

A restocking fee may apply. 

We cannot refund any book that appears read, used, marked, bent, torn or if the spine is cracked.

The following items are non-refundable:
  • Special orders
  • Quick references
  • Study guides
  • Test preparation materials
  • Gift cards
  • Magazines
  • Discounted items or any items marked 'final sale'
  • Rolled paper
  • Markers
  • Head sets, ear phones, ear buds (if defective, these items may be exchanged only when accompanied by a receipt and original packaging)
  • Show and Save and discount booklets
  • Demo products

Computers and servicing products

Computers

Manufacturer-sealed items or items in resealable condition may be returned up to two weeks from the date of purchase. Sales receipt and valid ID are required.

All opened hardware components will be tested and a restocking fee assessed before a refund is applied. All original packaging, manuals and manufacturer's CDs must accompany the original sales receipt.

Hardware items will not be refunded by Computers on Campus if the Manufacturer's warranty is in force. Replacement, repair or warranty assistance will be at the discretion of Computers on Campus.

Servicing Products

All new hardware purchased from Computers on Campus comes with a manufacturer limited warranty. Depending on the warranty, hardware may be serviced on campus, with a local service supplier or directly by the manufacturer. Please read your product warranty card or contact Computers on Campus for specific details.

The following items are non-refundable:
  • Opened ink cartridges
  • OEM hardware components
  • Computer disks
  • CDs, DVDs and other media
  • Sealed items such as software

Please note: BookStore refund policies vary by category. All refunds/exchanges must be accompanied by a receipt and UM student or Government issued identification.

Trademark licensing

The University of Manitoba owns a number of identifying marks. Usage of these marks is controlled and protected under the Trademarks Act (Canada) and the University of Manitoba Act (Manitoba).

Before manufacturers can design and produce clothing, giftware or novelty items with the University of Manitoba or Bison Sports logo, a Manufacturing Licensee Application (PDF) must be completed and approved, and the University of Manitoba BookStore will need to approve both manufacturer and retail affiliate before product can be produced.
