Dr. Edward Buchel, Head, Department of Surgery and Dr. Larry Tan, Director, Surgical Education are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Richard Liu as Program Director for the Thoracic Surgery Residency Program effective July 1, 2020.
Dr. Liu completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Alberta in 2009 followed by his General Surgery Residency at Dalhousie University in 2017. During his training at Dalhousie University Dr. Liu also completed the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Clinical Investigator Program and his MSc in Community Health and Epidemiology. In June 2019 Dr. Liu completed his Thoracic Surgery Residency training at the University of Manitoba. He joined the Department of Surgery, Section of Thoracic Surgery on July 1, 2019 as an Assistant Professor.
During his training Dr. Liu held several leadership positions including President of the Professional Association of Residents in the Maritime Provinces. He has previously been a board member, Governance and Nomination Committee for the Canadian Association of Interns and Residents.
Dr. Liu has been the successful recipient of numerous scholarship and academic awards throughout his training. He has several publications and has presented at both national and international conferences with respect to his research interests.
