COVID-19 frequently asked questions

COVID-19 protocols: Effective Friday, September 3, in accordance with public health restrictions, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status and government-issued identification is required at entry to University of Manitoba sport and recreational facilities for:
- All users of UM’s gyms/fitness/workout facilities, aged 12 years and older
- All participants in recreational/sport programs aged 18 and older (verification of age may be requested)
- All guardians/spectators accompanying recreational/sport program participants 17 years and younger
- All spectators over the age of 12 who are attending Bisons home games (Children 11 years and younger must be accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult
At this time only those who can provide proof of approved COVID-19 vaccination status will be admitted
Please be reminded that 3-ply masks are required indoors at all times, as well as outdoor when physical distance cannot be maintained.
Screening and COVID-19 testing
What screening is required to ensure it’s safe for my child able to attend a program?
All staff and participants must complete the MB COVID-19 shared health screening tool prior to attending any program.

What if my child develops symptoms while participating in a program?
If a participant/ athlete complains of any new or worsening symptoms of COVID-19 while a part of our programs, their parent/ guardian will be notified immediately.
They will be permitted to participate in programs again once a negative COVID-19 test result has been reported AND they have been symptom free for 24hours.
What do I do if my child tests positive for COVID-19?

Participants and their families will be required to follow the advice of Public Health as it relates to their return to camp.

What happens if a child at camp tests positive for COVID-19?
Manitoba Public health will guide our contract tracing and families will be notified when required.
Information regarding positive cases and potential exposures will be shared with the child's main contact as identified on the participants’ personal information form. Confidentiality of personal information will be protected and no identifying information will be shared when communicating a positive case at camp.
Masks and sanitization
Are masks mandatory for staff and campers?
Yes, while on campus (indoor or outdoor), masks are mandatory for all staff, parents/guardians and children regardless of age.
Sanitization stations are available at building entrances and exits.
All group use equipment (i.e. dodgeballs, gaming system controllers etc) will be sanitized after each use.
Will vaccines be mandatory for staff and participants?
Yes, the University of Manitoba will require faculty, staff, students and campus visitors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Individuals aged 12 and over are required to have their first dose by September 22, 2021 and their second dose by the end of October 2021. This vaccine protocol is in place for the balance of the 2021-22 academic year, with more details to come.
