Important dates for Fall 2021 

January 15, 2021: Application deadline.  Apply here!

January 22, 2021: Deadline to submit the personal essay, recommendations, and audition video recordings. 

The personal essay is to be uploaded to the application. Recommenders will be sent a link by the application system to complete an online form. For more details about the audition recordings, see below.

Interviews will be scheduled between February 8-19, 2021.

To be considered for Desautels Faculty of Music scholarships, applicants must meet the application deadline and audition during the advertised audition dates. Late applications will be considered on a case by case basis. Please note, that admission may not be possible for all qualified applicants. Admission is dependent on:

• the number of spaces available
• the area of major practical study
• instructor availability
• performance & sight-reading ability as demonstrated at the audition
• letters of reference
• interview
• other information provided with the application - personal essay, previous academics, etc.

 Application Requirements

• Online application
• Audition video recordings 
• Two letters of reference 
• A personal essay of 250-300 words which outlines your musical aspirations and your plans for achieving them.
• Portfolio - (For composition applicants only)

Auditions - Video recordings - Portfolio

• For Fall 2021 applications, video recordings will replace in-person auditions and interviews will be held remotely. 
• Applicants are required to submit video recording(s) that fulfill the specific audition requirements by area of study as listed below. We prefer recordings are to be done in one take (as if it was a live audition) however we will accept multiple recordings.  
• Video recordings and portfolios can be uploaded to either YouTube or Google Drive. Please email the YouTube or Google Drive links to Louella.Yambot@umanitoba.ca .

Bachelor of Jazz Studies

Bachelor of Music - Composition

Bachelor of Music -  Piano

Bachelor of Music - String and Guitar

Bachelor of Music - Voice 

Bachelor of Music - Winds/Brass/Percussion

Accompanists

For 2021 we understand it may be difficult to arrange accompaniment for your audition recordings. Applicants may record with an accompanist if they would like to and/or are able to work with an accompanist in a safe and socially distanced manner, however, this is not required for your audition. 

Music Theory Entrance Exam

As part of the audition process, applicants will write a music theory test which assesses competency in basic music theory.  This exam is written on the day of the in-person audition and applicants have 1 hour to complete the test. For 2021, the exam will be administered remotely. Download a sample theory test
