The Consultation- Liaison Psychiatry Service provides psychiatric consultation and ongoing care to patients hospitalized at the Health Sciences Centre including the general medical and surgical wards, Intensive Care units, Rehabilitation Hospital, and Women's Hospital.
Each of the attending psychiatrists has additional involvement in outpatient clinics with a specific population of medically ill patients.
This service provides an exciting wealth of learning opportunities for a wide range of health care students including medical students, family medicine residents, neurology and physical medicine residents, International Medical Graduate program students, physician assistant students, junior and senior psychiatric residents. The service is available to medical students as a core clerkship rotation or elective rotation who would like to experience another setting in which psychiatry is practiced in a team environment. Our team typically consists of five psychiatrists, a senior psychiatry resident and one to two medical students. Other students are routinely part of the team. Psychiatric residents can fulfill the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons requirement for exposure to Consultation- Liaison Psychiatry on this service as either a full time or part time rotation. The rotation combines exposure to Consultation- Liaison Psychiatry and Psychogeriatrics. The rotation is also available as an elective for senior psychiatry residents.
Our program also offers a senior resident elective in outpatient consultation-liaison psychiatry for those residents interested in further pursuing a career in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
